That’s Philippine Army’s 301st Infantry Brigade commander Colonel Eric Uchida assuring the public that no renegade soldiers – at least within the jurisdiction of the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) in Western Visayas – will stage a coup d’etat against President Rodrigo Duterte.
“We’ve very busy working with our stakeholders to keep the region peaceful,” said Uchida. “As ground commander dito sa Region 6, I can assure you na walang mangyayaring ganyan dito.”
Uchida was in Iloilo City attending the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council meeting. The Philippine Army is one of the member agencies.
There were rumors that some quarters within the Armed Forces of the Philippines were not happy with the way Duterte was running the country.
Uchida said the peace initiatives of the Duterte administration were showing signs of progress.
There have been no clashes between the military and insurgents in Western Visayas since the national government and National Democratic Front – Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army agreed on a truce in August.
“Maganda ang result ng ceasefire,” said Uchida.
He expressed confidence that Iloilo province will soon be declared insurgency-free just like the provinces of Guimaras, Aklan and Antique which were declared such much earlier.
In September, Communications secretary Martin Andanar said Malacañang received reports of a coup plot against Duterte.
He said “credible sources in the United States” provided the information.
Andanar said the Palace was seriously investigating this reported coup plot, but he refused to reveal any names. He said some of the names they have received still needed confirmation.
“We know who they are, we are studying it. The warning is just be careful in what you plan because it’s against the law,” Andanar said./PN
