ILOILO – Tropical storm “Marce” left this province P410,778,060 poorer in damaged infrastructures, agriculture and fisheries.
The damage to infrastructures – roads, pubic markets and fishing ports – reached P17,475,500 as of yesterday’s report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
In the agriculture sector, “Marce” wrecked havoc to 3,372 hectares of rice farms, 136 hectares of cornfields and 5,364.25 hectares of banana and sugarcane plantations (total: P23,372,360).
In fisheries, the damage reached P230,000 covering 11 hectares of mangroves, five hectares of aquaculture and 12 fish cages.
Fifty-six fishing boats were partially damaged while 63 were totally destroyed.
The PDRRMO also listed 130 houses partially damaged and 13 houses totally destroyed.
“Marce” pummeled Western Visayas Friday last week. It affected 20 Iloilo municipalities and the component city of Passi, 189 barangays and 10,289 families (42,479 persons).
The PDRRMO reported one casualty in Barangay Libongcogon, Zarraga town. Mark John Soriano, 17, drowned.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 6, however, listed another casualty in Barangay Invencion, Barotac Viejo. Cirilo Arenas, 51, was accidentally electrocuted.
The OCD also reported 7,835 displaced families from 16 towns of Capiz.
There were 379 affected families in four towns of Antique and 224 families in Aklan.
All of them returned to their respective houses on Nov. 27, according to OCD./PN
