ILOILO City – A police officer in Boracay shot a drunken man in Barangay Yapak in the island resort.
Police Officer 1 Kenneth Christian Senon, an intelligence officer of the Boracay Tourist Assistance Center (BTAC), was disarmed and “restricted at the Aklan Police Provincial Office.
Senon shot the 31-year-old Dennis Venus of the same village around 11 p.m. on Thursday.
He was on his way home when he caught the bolo-wielding Venus harassing tricycle drivers, according to Senior Inspector Jess Baylon, BTAC chief.
Senon introduced himself as a policeman and told Venus to stop, but the latter tried to attack the officer.
He shot Venus on the right thigh, but the latter recovered and tried to charge at him again, so the policeman shot him on the stomach, said Baylon.
“Our police officer defended himself,” the Boracay police chief said. “He had no intention to kill the victim.”
Venus was taken to a hospital in Kalibo, Aklan. Baylon said they will file direct assault charges against him.
Senon turned over his service firearm, a .9mm pistol, to the Aklan police./PN
