MANILA – The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division on Monday allowed Sen. Jinggoy Estrada to undergo medical examinations for his left knee.
Estrada is scheduled to leave the Philippine National Police (PNP) Detention Center to undergo magnetic resonance imaging and X-Ray, in Camp Crame, Quezon City on Tuesday around noon.
The senator is currently detained over his alleged involvement in the multibillion-peso pork barrel scam.
In his two-page motion, Estrada, who sought medical furlough before the anti-graft court on Friday, said he wanted to undergo medical tests at Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City “as soon as possible.”
He also said he was ready to shoulder costs for security escort service.
According to Dr. Jose Syquia, who checked him on Dec. 30, Estrada has patellofemoral pain syndrome,
The syndrome is the pain felt behind the kneecap due to contact pressure in the joints.
“Considering accused’s health issues, there is need for him to undergo immediate X-Ray and MRI of his left knee as recommended by Dr. Syquia,” the motion read.
In May last year, Sandiganbayan also allowed Estrada to undergo a shoulder check-up.
In 2015, he was also granted to leave his detention to have his heart and gastrointestinal tract examined./PN
