MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte urged newly appointed public officials to be honest and serve the public.
“It’s your last call to serve your nation and because I am pleading to you and I hope that we can work together, trust each other and I said give it to the people this time,” Duterte said.
The President recently led the oath of office of 220 new government officials at the Malacañang.
In his speech, Duterte underscored that there will be no corruption under his watch. He also vowed to fight bureaucratic inefficiency.
He said he has not given favored treatment to any businessmen applying for permits.
“I have not, maski sinong tanungin, wala akong tinawagan dito na ano iyong kontrata ko. As a matter of fact, I discourage people iyong magdala-dala ng negosyante sa opisina ko,” the President said.
Key officials who took their oath were Reynaldo Berroyo, administrator of Lightrail Transit Authority; Emmanuel Diwa Pineda, chairman and administrator of Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan; Vicente Pelagio Angala, chief operating officer of Duty Free Philippines Corp.; and Angelo Verdan, general manager of Cebu Port Commission.
Also appointed were Jim Sydiongo, director general of Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines; Bernelito Fernandez, associate justice of Sandiganbayan; Terry Ridon, chairman of Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor; Margauz “Mocha” Uson, board member of Movie and Television Review and Classification Board; and Cesar Montano, chief operating office of Tourism Promotions Board among others./PN
