ILOILO City – The proliferation of illegal drugs in the village of Desamparados, Jaro district should not be taken against its barangay captain Noemi Jablo, said Councilor Jeffrey Ganzon.
On Jan. 12, Ganzon’s committee on dangerous drugs held an executive session with Jablo and two other barangay captains whose villages the police said had a serious problem on illegal drugs.
“There’s no Jablo in the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s (PDEA) list of suspected drug personalities in Barangay Desamparados, and PDEA-identified drug suspect Rommel alias Rampart Gregori was not even from the barangay,” said Ganzon.
Ganzon said he will submit his committee report during the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s session next week.
The two other barangay captains summoned to the executive session were Monica-Blumentritt’s (City Proper) Keith “Dabing” Espinosa and Bakhaw’s (Mandurriao district) Remia Prevendido Gregori.
But Ganzon said his committee will refer these two to the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Aside from the proliferation of illegal drugs in their villages, the two barangay captains were questioned for not including in their respective Barangay Anti-Illegal Drug Abuse Council reports their relatives suspected to be involved in the drug trade.
Espinosa’s husband, Jesus Jr. is No. 2 in Police Station 1’s list of suspected drug personalities.
Their house was raided last October 2016 and policemen recovered sachets of shabu and guns.
On the other hand, Gregori’s brother Richard Prevendido has been tagged a drug lord by PDEA.
In recent months, a son and several nephews of Gregori were arrested, too, and charged with violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Jablo was a sister-in-law of a chicken inasal vendor whom motorcycle-riding gunmen shot to death last year. Police believed the crime was drug-related./PN
