BACOLOD City – Multiple charges were filed against five people allegedly behind the fatal robbery of a department store on Locsin Street, Barangay 13 last month.
Two of the suspects were former police officer Jayson Sumalangcay of Barangay Granada and former Bacolod City Police Office personnel Marlon Famucol of Barangay Alijis. The other three were John Does, police said.
They were charged with robbery with homicide, murder and frustrated murder before the City Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday, said Senior Inspector Eugene Tolentino, Police Station 1 commander.
Tolentino was unable to verify the current status of Famucol.
All he knew was Famucol was transferred to the national police headquarters last year due to his alleged involvement in illegal drugs.
A “star witness” led the police to the suspects, Tolentino said. He declined to name the witness.
Two people died during the robbery of JDS Mindoro Enterprises Corp. around 7:30 p.m. on Christmas Day: son of the storeowner Changle Wu and security guard Jilbert Mayang.
Wei Quang Huang, Yuan Long Huang and Zhang Xiao Dong were injured.
Sumalangcay emerged from the crime scene and put a bag and a long firearm on a motorcycle, the witness claimed in an affidavit.
Famucol and the other suspects served as lookout, police said.
Initial police investigation showed the suspects took around P1 million cash from the store.
Sumalangcay was once arrested for illegal possession of firearms but managed to get out on bail, said Tolentino.
In a radio interview, Sumalangcay denied the accusations./PN
