MANILA – Sen. Grace Poe is pushing for stricter safety regulations on public transport.
She made this statement after a fatal bus crash incident in Tanay, Rizal on Monday that killed a total of 15 people, including the driver, and injured 40 others. The bus apparently lost its breaks.
The victims, college students from Bestlink College of the Philippines in Novaliches, Quezon City, on board a Panda Coach Tours and Transport, Inc. bus, were traveling to Sacramento Adventure Camp in Tanay to attend medical and survival training for their National Service Training Program.
“Walang puwang ang pagkakamali at kapabayaan sa mga naghahandog ng transportasyon pampubliko dahil ang isang pagpalaya ay maaaring magdulot ng trahedya sa mga pasahero,” Poe said.
The Ilongga senator urged the transportation industry to hold the bus company responsible for the deaths of teenage students.
“Lubos po kaming nakikiramay sa lahat ng naulila sa nakalulungkot na pangyayaring ito,” she added.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has said that a 30-day preventive suspension order will be issued against the Panda Coach Tourist and Transport, Inc.
They will suspend all six units of the bus firm, LTFRB said.
Poe is the chairperson of the Senate committee on public services./PN
