MANILA – Defending champion De La Salle University Lady Spikers cruised to an easy 25-12, 25-16, 25-15 win over the Adamson University Lady Falcons in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday night at the San Juan Arena.
Kim Kianna Dy led the way with 15 points, including three blocks and two service aces, for the Lady Spikers, which tied rival Ateneo Lady Eagles at second place in the standings with a 4-1 win-loss slate.
Ilongga Aduke Ogunsaya had another impressive game as she tallied 11 markers for the Lady Spikers, which is gearing up for its Season 78 finals rematch against the Lady Eagles on March 4.
The Lady Spikers opened the match with an 8-4 lead primarily on hits by Dy. The edge grew further with contributions from Ogunsaya, Mary Joy Baron and Desiree Cheng en route to an easy 1-0 set lead.
The Lady Falcons got an early advantage in the second frame but the Lady Spikers quickly bounced back to surge to a 21-14 advantage. Back-to-back hits by May Luna closed the set for the Lady Spikers.
The Lady Spikers imposed its presence anew in the third frame as Cheng and Dy conspired to build a 21-13 edge on a Luna conversion. The Lady Falcons tried to come close but timely hits by Dy sealed the win for the Lady Spikers.
“Sinasabi ko sa mga bata na one game at a time. Hindi puwedeng lumundag kaagad (sa ibang game),” said Green Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus. “Hindi puwedeng maliitin ang mga teams dito sa UAAP.”
Jessica Galanza and Bernadette Flora combined 11 points for the Lady Falcons, which along with the University of the East Lady Warriors dropped to a 0-5 at the bottom of the standings./PN
