ILOILO City – Today, the former barangay captain of Intaluan, Pototan, Iloilo from whose house one kilo of shabu was recovered on Saturday will be charged with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 will be filing the complaint. Its operatives arrested Ramon Platon, 50, after months of surveillance that started last year.
PDEA deputy regional director Levi Ortiz expects Platon’s arrest to have a dramatic effect on the supply of shabu in Iloilo.
“Imagine kung hindi namin nakuha ang one kilo. Many of our brothers and sisters will be adversely affected. Maraming mga addicts ang makatikim nito,” said Ortiz.
The kilo of shabu’s street value was estimated to be around P8 million.
Buoyed by Platon’s successful arrest, Ortiz said PDEA will be carrying out more antidrug operations targeting high-value targets.
Platon was listed No. 1 in PDEA’s list of high-value drug targets in Iloilo province.
“Marami pa tayong huhulhin sa susunod na araw,” said Ortiz.
PDEA operatives came prepared for the Feb. 25 early morning buy-bust operation. They were also armed with a search warrant so after Platon was busted they immediately searched his house.
Platon was already peddling shabu even when he was still the barangay captain of Intaluan, Pototan, according to Ortiz.
He said Platon previously got his stocks from suspected Iloilo City drug lords Melvin “Dragon” Odicta Sr. in Barangay Tanza Esperanza, City Proper and Richard “Buang” Prevendido in Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district.
But after Odicta was killed in August last year and Prevendido went into hiding, Platon found suppliers in Negros Island, Cebu and Mindanao, said Ortiz./PN
