MANILA – Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process secretary Jesus Dureza said he received reports about the alleged beheading of a German kidnap victim.
Dureza said he was informed by Colonel Cirilito Sobejana, Joint Sulu Task Force commander, through phone that “validation efforts of such report is still ongoing.”
The Western Mindanao Command, earlier confirmed receiving reports about the beheading of Juergen Kantner, who was kidnapped along with his wife by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in November last year.
The ASG had set a Sunday deadline for the payment of the P30 million ransom for the German captive.
The Filipino terrorist group killed Kantner’s wife Sabine Merz during the abduction.
“In the meantime, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other security forces are maintaining their ‘search and rescue posture’ until all kidnap victims are freed,” Dureza said.
In a speech during the annual Philippine Military Academy homecoming in Baguio City last week, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police to pursue an “intensified operations using all available assets and resources” against the Moro extremists./PN
