MANILA – Sen. Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV on Tuesday asked Solicitor General Jose Calida to “shut up” and just file a case against him.
“They can threaten me all they want but I will continue to fulfil my mandate to expose the truth about President (Rodrigo) Duterte,” Trillanes, in a text message to Senate reporters, said.
On Monday, Calida said that his office is preparing to file charges against Trillanes for allegedly “coddling” members of the Davao Death Squad (DDS).
The official said that “hiding” and “providing security” for retired policeman Arturo Lascañas, who accused Duterte of ordering and paying policemen to kill crime suspects, is not a senator’s job.
Amid threats of legal action, Trillanes said he will continue “[standing] up against the blatant misuse and abuse of power by [the Duterte] administration.”
Early on, the senator alleged the president and his family of having billions of pesos in undeclared bank accounts. The same allegation was made against Duterte a few days before the 2016 May Elections.
He has also ordered the Anti-Money Laundering Council to disclose Duterte’s financial status./PN
