MANILA – Bea Tan and Angelique Gervacio captured the crown in the 2017 Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) on Tour at the Tondalingan Beach in Dagupan, Pangasinan.

Tan, a native of Negros Occidental, and Gervacio claimed the title after beating Southwestern University’s Therese Rae Ramas and Floremel Rodriguez in straight sets in their knockout championship game.

It was a clean sweep for the Tan-Gervacio pair after beating all their foes from the elimination round. Capturing the third place trophy in the two-day event are Amanda Villanueva and Rapril Aguilar.

With the victory, the pair of Tan and Gervacio received a P35,000 cash prize. It was Tan’s second-straight leg championship after winning the Cabugao, Ilocos Sur leg last month with Charo Soriano.

Other participants in the two-day event were Pocari Sweat’s Melissa Gohing and Fille Cainglet-Cayetano, Air Force’s Coyah Abanto and Jocemer Tapic, UST’s Cecilia Bangad and Kassi Gormley, Coast Guard’s Pia Sarmiento and Bien Juanillo, Leuseht Dawis and Dawn Dizon, Jonafer San Pedro and Regielyn Cabrera, and Jessa Aranda and Alarnie Pesebre.

Meanwhile, the pair of UAAP beach volleyball titlist University of Santo Tomas Tiger Spikers’ Kris Roy Guzman and Anthony Arbasto also clinched their second-straight title by beating Jeremiah Barrica and Kevin Hadlocon of Far Eastern University Tamaraws.

After the Dagupan, Pangasinan leg, the BVR on Tour is set to return from March 18 to 19 for the third leg to be held at the Lakawon Island in Negros Occidental. It will also head to the island province of Guimaras for the sixth leg from May 6 to 7.

The BVR organizes beach volleyball tournaments in different beaches and public places in the Philippines, a grassroots development program for the young and aspiring players, and professional circuit tours./PN
