BACOLOD City – An inspiration. A success story. Victorias City’s pride.
These are just some of the praises Noven Belleza received from local officials after emerging as the grand champion of the noontime television show “It’s Showtime” singing competition “Tawag ng Tanghalan.”
“The triumph of Victoriahanon Noven Belleza on March 11 Tawag ng Tanghalan Grand Finals serves as an inspiration to young talents like him,” said Negros Occidental governor Alfredo Marañon Jr.
The governor said Belleza pursued his lifelong dream and “did not allow his … being a young farmer deter his ambition to be recognized in a much bigger stage against equally outstanding rivals.”
“He is a shining example of a success story, having gone through auditions that drew [more than] 30,000 aspirants,” Marañon said.
Meanwhile Victorias City mayor Francis Frederick Palanca said Belleza’s win is “an answer to all our prayers” and makes his “heart … filled with extreme happiness, pride and gratitude.”
“Belleza’s victory is a victory for all Victoriahanons,” Palanca said. “He proved what our city’s name stands for: Victory! I am glad that he gave us the opportunity to be instrumental to his success.”
Once again it has been proven that poverty is not a hindrance to success “for those who dream and work for it,” Palanca said. “[Belleza] epitomizes that success — he overcame all odds and came out the winner.”
He said their native’s win will make their 19th Kadalag-an Festival culmination next week a “double celebration” and “much, much sweeter.”
“In a few months, all these euphoria will die down, but the pride that Noven’s victory has given us will continue to inspire and challenge those who will dare to dream,” said the mayor. “I can’t thank you all enough for the undying support, prayers and votes. To God be the glory!”
Belleza was crowned the winner at the Newport Performing Arts of Resorts World Manila.
The rice farmer topped the combined text votes and judges’ score with 99.96 percent, followed by Sam Mangubat of Batangas (49 percent) and Froilan Canlas of Camarines Sur (45 percent).
With the win, Belleza bagged the P2-million top prize, a house and lot from Camella Homes, a recording contract with ABS-CBN Channel 2’s Star Music, and a musical package from JB Music.
It was Belleza’s first time to join a nationwide talent search. He belted out the inspirational song “May Bukas Pa” to reach the top three and mixed the classic hits of Air Supply to get the grand champion trophy./PN
