MANILA – Sen. Leila de Lima is slated for an arraignment hearing today at 2 p.m. in the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 34.
This will mark de Lima’s first public appearance since her arrest and detention at the Custodial Center of the Philippine National Police for drug trafficking cases.
Her arraignment is in connection with the complaint filed by the Department of Justice against the senator for disobedience to summons.
In November last year during the House investigation into the Bilibid drug trade, de Lima’s former driver and bodyguard testified that the lady senator had told him to hide and snub the investigation.
At the justice committee-led hearing, Dayan’s daughter Hannah May also revealed her text exchange with the lawmaker.
“Hi Tita. Good pm po. May tinatanong po si Pa. Bakit daw may subpoena siya at anong gagawin nya?” she texted the senator last October 1, 2016.
A few minutes later, de Lima responded: “Pakisabi sa kanya, magtago lang muna sya. kagagawan yan ni speaker Alvarez at dikta ni Digong. Pagpipiyestahan lang siya at kaming dalawa kapag nag-appear siya sa hearing na yan.”
De Lima had admitted that she advised Dayan through his daughter not to attend the House hearing into the illegal drug trade.
