THERE ARE things in life that never truly leave us – only waiting patiently in the corners of our soul, ready to resurface when the time is right. For me, one of those things has always been writing.
After a long pause marked by pages unwritten and thoughts left to simmer in silence, I am finally coming back to a familiar place.
It’s been a while since my last column – a hiatus filled with long days of legal work, new responsibilities, and the quiet rhythms of everyday life. But even in that silence, the itch to write never left. Words would still form in the back of my mind as I listened to conversations, observed the changing world, or stood in court. I realized that though I had stepped away from the page, my heart had not. And now, I find myself drawn back, more inspired than ever to write not just for myself, but for others – for you, the reader.
Life, in its usual way, found a way to occupy my pen with other obligations, leaving this voice momentarily quiet. But silence often breeds clarity, and now I return with a renewed sense of purpose, sharper questions, and a deeper appreciation for the written word.
This comeback isn’t just about returning. It’s about evolving.
This revival of my column comes with a new title: “Amicus Insight”. The word “amicus” comes from amicus curiae – “friend of the court.” But beyond its legal meaning, I like to think of it as a friend with insight – someone who offers thoughtful, fair perspectives to help others understand matters that may seem distant, complex, or daunting. That’s exactly what I hope to do in this space.
As someone who lives and works in the legal world, I’ve seen how the law can often feel inaccessible – full of jargon, procedures, and Latin phrases that seem foreign to most. Yet the law affects everyone. It determines what we can do, what we’re entitled to, what we must protect, and how we can seek fairness. It shapes our communities, our families, and our livelihoods.
I believe passionately that the law should not only be known but understood, and not just by lawyers or scholars, but by ordinary people who live its effects every single day. That’s why “Amicus Insight” won’t just echo statutes or court rulings. Instead, it will seek to explain, unpack, and humanize the law. To write about legal developments, yes, but also about justice, ethics, governance, rights, and responsibilities in a way that speaks to both the mind and the heart.
Expect articles that clarify what’s happening in our legal landscape, answer questions we’re often too hesitant to ask, and reflect on how the law can do better by us all. Whether it’s through explaining key decisions, tackling legal myths, or sharing personal observations about the justice system, my goal is always to connect – with you, the reader – and empower through understanding.
And so, with pen in hand and purpose renewed, I begin again. Thank you for allowing me to return – not only as a writer but as a fellow seeker of insight.
Here’s to writing again with clarity, curiosity, and compassion./PN
