Aklanon swimmer wins bronze in ASEAN Para Games

KALIBO, Aklan – A resident of Ibajay bagged a bronze medal in the swimming competition of the 9th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Para Games.

The 18-year-old Claire Calizo timed 1:15.47 in the 100-meter freestyle women’s category, trailing behind Syuci Indriani of Indonesia, who clocked 1:05.15, and Danielle Yan Ting Moi of Singapore, who timed 1:07.20.

The swimming event was held at the National Aquatic Centre in Kompleks Sukan Negara, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Calizo is a student at the Kalibo Integrated Special Education Center who previously won gold awards in 50-meter backstroke and 50-meter freestyle swimming competitions in the 2017 Palarong Pambansa Paralympics held at San Jose, Antique.

Malaysia is hosting this year’s biennial seven-day sports event, which will end today. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
