MANILA – John Amores remains determined to revive his PBA career as he awaits the result of his appeal before the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) over his revoked professional playing license.
The NorthPort Batang Pier cager revealed in an interview with Abante Sports Now that he has already filed an appeal to the GAB and has been waiting for weeks for an official response.
“Nag-appeal talaga ako (sa GAB) parang one month na rin ako nag aabang ng sagot nila, kung ano bang mangyayari, makakabalik pa ba ako sa paglalaro,” Amores said.
He added: “Siyempre, wala naman ako talagang sapat na kinikita. May dalawang anak ako, kaya mas gusto ko pa rin makabalik sa paglalaro, dun ako nasanay eh, ‘yun ang naging buhay ko.”
The GAB has previously revoked the professional playing license of Amores over his involvement in a shooting incident during a pickup game in Lumban, Laguna, last year.
The PBA, for its part, has meted Amores with a conference-long ban last season, but it has already elapsed.
If ever his appeal will be granted, Amores said he remains optimistic that the Batang Pier will once again give him a chance, especially since he has a live contract with them until 2026.
“Tingin ko naman nandyan pa din si NorthPort para sa akin eh, may kontrata pa din naman ako until 2026 kaya tingin ko kapag nabigyan ako ng license, tatanggapin pa rin naman siguro ako,” Amores said.
For now, Amores is keeping himself busy with family and business matters while also joining occasional exhibition games and local leagues to stay active in basketball.
“Usually, totally, naano ko na din siya eh naipon, siyempre ‘yung iba nagastos ko na din sa ilang months na lumipas, ‘yun kung ano na lang po ang natira at may konti pang naipon, ‘yun na lang ang pinang-start namin,” he added./PN
