ILOILO City – Uswag Ilonggo party-list’s Cong. James “Jojo” Ang Jr. has again denounced allegations tying him to a multimillion-peso kickback scheme in Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) flood-control projects, calling the claims “baseless” and “orchestrated,” even as he expressed full support for an investigation into the controversy.

Ang said he would seek legal remedies against those fabricating and spreading “unfounded claims” against him, and vowed to address the accusations “at the proper time, in the appropriate forum.”

The congressman denied namedropping House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Cong. Zaldy Co, or any other public official in relation to government projects.

The lawmaker’s denial came after contractors Sarah and Curlee Discaya of St. Gerrard Construction testified before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee that several legislators — including Ang, Romualdez, and Co — allegedly demanded 10 to 25 percent commissions from project funds.

Curlee Discaya further alleged that Ang’s projects were linked to allocations from Romualdez and Co.

Ang, however, rejected the accusations, branding them as part of “an orchestrated attempt” to drag his name into controversy and divert attention from the real issues.

“I strongly and categorically deny the baseless accusations linking me to alleged corrupt practices and illegal acts. The ongoing flood-control investigation is a serious matter. I am totally surprised that my name has been mentioned,” Ang said.

He added that he fully supports “a transparent and impartial investigation of those alleged to have profited from flood control and other government projects. The Filipino people deserve nothing less than the truth.”

While stressing his opposition to corruption “in all its forms,” the Iloilo City-based lawmaker underscored his commitment to public service. “Then and now, I have adhered to my mandate to serve the people and the sector I represent with integrity,” he said.

Ang was first elected as Uswag Ilonggo’s first nominee in 2022 and won reelection in 2025./PN
