BORACAY – An anti-smoking task force was reactivated in Malay, Aklan.
Mayor Ceciron Cawaling signed a local executive order supporting the nationwide smoking ban, under Executive Order No. 26, that President Rodrigo Duterte signed on May 16.
Executive No. 26 prohibits smoking in “enclosed public spaces and public conveyances, whether stationary or in motion, except in DSA (designated smoking areas).”
Cawaling’s executive order complements the existing Municipal Ordinance No. 272, or the Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance of the Municipality of Malay, Aklan signed in 2009, which prohibits smoking in any public utility vehicle, government-owned vehicle, public transport, entertainment establishment, accommodation, and public buildings.
Cawaling appointed Executive Assistant IV Rowen Aguirre as the chairman of the anti-smoking task force.
Malay police head Chief Inspector Mark Evan Salvo and Boracay Tourist Assistance Center chief Senior Inspector Mark Anthony Gesulga were also appointed as Aguirre’s co-chairmen.
The task force will collaborate with the Malay General Services Office, Municipal Tourism Office, Municipal Health Office, Office of the Municipal Engineer, Environmental Management and Services Unit, Business Permits and Licensing Office, Solid Waste and Management Unit, the private sector, and nongovernment organizations.
