ANTIQUE – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has placed the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) of Antique under blue alert status in preparation for the possible impact of Typhoon “Nando” (international name: “Ragasa”).
Gov. Paolo Everardo S. Javier, through the PDRRMC memorandum issued Sunday morning, September 21, directed all municipal and barangay disaster councils to likewise activate their respective EOCs at the same alert level. This ensures heightened emergency preparedness, intensified coordination, and swift response at all levels.
According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (PAGASA) advisory, Antique is expected to experience heavy rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters due to the combined effects of “Nando” and the southwest monsoon (habagat). Communities in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as well as those near mountain slopes, were advised to take necessary precautions, including pre-emptive evacuation if needed.
The PDRRMC also urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas prone to floods, mudflows, and landslides. Coastal activities and fishing operations have been suspended for the safety of small sea craft and fishing boats.
Barangays along major river systems and coastal zones were instructed to closely monitor water levels and provide continuous updates. Authorities stressed the importance of early warning systems and pre-emptive evacuation of residents and farm animals if the situation worsens.
Residents are reminded to remain vigilant, continuously monitor weather updates, and prioritize safety at all times./PN
