Antique guv awards cash incentives to 81 student-athletes

ANTIQUE – Eighty-one student-athletes from Antique received cash incentives from Gov. Paolo Javier yesterday, August 19, in recognition of their achievements in various regional and national competitions.

The awarding ceremony, held at the Old Session Hall of the Old Capitol Building, saw athletes from Delegate Angel Salazar Jr. Memorial School (DASJMS), Antique National School (ANS), Saint Anthony’s College (SAC), and the University of Antique (UA) receive incentives ranging from P3,000 to P5,000, depending on the level of competition and the medals won.

The athletes represented Antique in prestigious tournaments, including the 5th Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri Cup 2025 19th National Invitational Arnis Tournament in Passi City; the 2024 Western Visayas Young Farmers Challenge Program Start-Up Regional Competition in Iloilo City; the Boxing Men’s Division of the 2025 National SCUAA Games in Camiguin; and the Futsal Women’s Open Category at Nigel’s Cup Tournament in Aklan.

In his message, Gov. Javier lauded the athletes for bringing honor to the province and assured them of continued government support.

“Continue what you are doing. Be inspired. Importante gid nga malab-ot natun ang atun ginahandum. The provincial government will always support you,” he said.

The governor also committed to lobbying for increased incentives for student-athletes and improving sports facilities and equipment under the 2026 provincial budget.

Man-an ko gamay ukon kulang gid ang atun facilities so we will work on it. Hopefully, in the coming years, we can provide you with more equipment and facilities to inspire you to bring home more medals for Antique. Kamo gid ang pride kang mga Antiqueño kag kang Antique,” he added./PN
