SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – Office spaces in Antique, particularly its capital town San Jose de Buenavista, are now being mapped as the province gears for the entry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) or the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry.
Director of the provincial trade office, Mercedes Young, said that the mapping process is being done as the province prepares its promotional collateral for BPO companies, such as those from the US, which will send their investment officials next month for a meeting with ICT stakeholders in Antique.
She also explained that the mapping process is an offshoot of the ICT stakeholders meeting, spearheaded by Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) director for field operations in the Visayas (Cluster 1) Frederick Amores in Antique last Sept. 22.
During that meeting, Joeven Tansi, executive director of the Iloilo Federation for Information Technology, said that Antiqueños comprise five percent of the 21,000 workforce in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry in the Visayas. Antique, as a province, is really ripe to become a host of BPO, he said.
He also added that Iloilo City already has a considerable number of BPOs, which it could barely accommodate and would like to share them with other provinces like Antique.
This was affirmed by Amores, who said the province could accommodate medium to small scale BPOs. He also added that BPOs would like to have office spaces that have fewer columns or posts inside.
Thus, the ongoing mapping of office spaces in Antique should find at least 1,000 to 10,000 square meters. Considered for connectivity are Bayantel, Globe and Smart providers.
The result of the mapping process will be uploaded to the website for other investors to visit. (PNA)
