ILOILO City – An arrest warrant was served to one of the Barcebas brothers inside the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Brgy. Ungka, Jaro district.

Personnel of the Jaro police station led by Chief Insp. Rhea Santos went to the BJMP on Saturday and served the arrest warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Victorino Maniba of Brancb 39, for the crime of illegal possession of unlicensed firearms to Jhelon Barcebas, punishable under Republic Act 8294.

Barcebas was charged with the crime after the Iloilo City Police Office raided their house on May 8 this year.

Seized were a 12-gauge shotgun, assorted live ammunitions, caliber .22 revolver, KG9 machine pistol, digital weighing scale, drug paraphernalia and three closed-circuit television cameras and monitor.

However, Jhelon and his brother Jorge were not around during the raid. They were later arrested in Brgy. Zamora Melliza, City Proper.

The police recovered from Jhelon’s room three hand grenades, assorted live ammunitions and drug paraphernalia, while seized from the room of Jaylord who was present during the operation were a caliber .45 pistol, holster and five big and elongated plastic sachets of shabu.

Jaylord, Jhelon and Jorge are now together at the BJMP along with their other sibling Joel, who was the suspect in killing Jaypee Espinosa in 2001 in Brgy. Zamora Melliza.

The Barcebas brothers were often heard firing guns and threatening neighbors. They were the prime suspects in the shooting of their neighbor Fernando “Paco” Defensor./PN
