KALIBO, Aklan — Tourists and devotees will have a glimpse of next year’s Kalibo Santo Niño Ati-Atihan Festival through the opening salvo on Oct. 24.
“Sadsad, Tamboe Salvo” will be a prelude to the weeklong celebration of the “mother of Philippine festivals” on Jan. 9 to 18.
“Intense street dancing and drumbeating courtesy of tribes will signal the start of the Ati-Atihan fever,” said Albert Menez, chair of the Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc., the organizer.
The opening salvo will be held at the Kalibo Pastrana Park here after a mass at the Saint John the Baptist Cathedral at 3 p.m.
It will also feature a reggae band from Iloilo, Bahaghari, at the Kalibo Magsaysay Park.
One of the early merrymaking activities ahead of the festival is the neon foam party, featuring disk jockeys from Iloilo, Manila and Kalibo, in the evening.
“Don’t miss any of the fun and show-stopping events on Oct. 24,” Menez said, adding that the 16 candidates in the 2015 Mutya it Kalibo Ati-Atihan will also make an appearance. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
