THERE is a real difference between the “Department of Defense” and the “Department of War” beyond just words.
United States President Donald Trump, the only US President without military service or previous political experience, has no idea of the personal consequences of war. People who have fought bravely in battles during wars know that peace is what they are fighting for and they don’t want to see any more wars.
The switch from defense to aggression will endanger so many people, although not Donald Trump, due to his “bone spurs”. Any sane leader wants to stop wars and then prevent further incidents.
Look for the comfort that peace brings, not the votes that aggression would. Be an example to the other leaders in the world. Actually stopping existing wars and preventing new ones would get you that much sought Nobel Peace Prize.

Not three stooges
The meeting of global leaders, well at least three major ones and a few minor leaders, is a great show but what will it lead to?
The three main actors, Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong-un, and Xi Jinping aren’t three amusing stooges but rather three bullies. They have been involved in wars, have nuclear weapons, and massive egos but what are they planning to do with them?
They are likely to release a joint statement about cooperation and world peace, but the reality is they are consolidating an “Eastern” alliance to challenge the western version led by the USA. Be prepared for some challenges to the world order.
I must admit, however, that they do know how to stage a military parade with precision and grandeur unlike Trump’s pathetic birthday show.

Does wealth confer pardons?
An odd word, “affluenza”, could be used again.
The word was first noticed in papers describing a young man, Ethan Couch, who killed four people while drunk but was too wealthy to understand right from wrong, his legal team said.
He initially avoided jail time but ended up there after violating his bail conditions.
Surely anyone without perhaps brain damage must know that killing four people was wrong.
The concept has seemingly re-emerged although for a minor dismeanor, when Piotr Szczerek, a millionaire executive, snatched a signed hat out of the hands of a young boy. He has subsequently said that it was a “mistake”.
There must be a better understanding of the consequences of not differentiating between what is right and wrong for all people as so many people, including some wealthy influential people, are doing the wrong thing without any obvious acceptance of their guilt.
Too many people doing the right thing are being let down by those doing the wrong thing.

Safe work?
Fire fighting is one of the few occupations where going to work can lead to danger, even deaths, and their bravery is to be respected.
Now, however they are facing a new danger – being arrested. Two firefighters have been arrested by federal agents while battling the Bear Gulch fire in Washington.
It seems farcical to suggest but why not let them finish fighting the fire before handcuffing them and taking them to who knows where. They will be too tired to run away. Yes, American freedom is a joke but brave individuals should be protected.
How can a country allow masked individuals, I assume they are all ICE agents, to grab people off the street and confine them before probably sending them “home”to countries they fled?
America was once “The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave” and it may still have the brave but less of the free.

Protect the children
Again, we see how wrong the world has become. Churches were once places of safety and sanctuary but now?
There has been assaults by religious practitioners in many countries and although condemned by their leaders it still happens. They will have no answers when these offenders reach the “pearly gates”.
Now, again, people are killed inside a church. Too many children are dying, from bullets in churches, and in Gaza, from empty stomachs. This is not the way anyone, except the evil, believe the world should be.
