The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will soon begin enforcing a three-month closed fishing season in the Visayan Sea, which includes the waters near Carles, Iloilo seen in this photo. Violators, like small-scale, medium- and large-scale commercial operators, may be penalized up to P500,000. The ban aims to protect dwindling marine resources and goes into effect on November 15, 2026. BALITA HALIN SA KAPITOLYO PHOTO

Palace rebuffs ‘martial law’ claims, says rule of law intact

Adrian Stewart Co - Thursday, January 29, 2026
Will President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. be able to survive the two impeachment complaints filed against him? The first complaint accuses the President of betrayal of public trust and violations of the Constitution, citing allegations that include his role in the transfer of former president Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court, claims of drug use that allegedly affect his leadership, and his handling of national budgets from 2023 to 2026. The second complaint links Marcos to alleged irregularities in infrastructure funding under what it calls the Baselined-Balanced-Managed parametric formula, which it claims resulted in “ghost,” overpriced, and substandard flood control projects.
