WADING THROUGH ‘HABAGAT.’ Residents navigate a flooded street in La Paz, Iloilo City as persistent rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or habagat, continue to affect Western Visayas. The Maasin Dam in Barangay Daja, Maasin, Iloilo is currently experiencing high water levels reaching 95.02 meters above sea level. This elevated reservoir level has prompted Metro Pacific Iloilo Water’s (MPIW) bulk water suppliers to reduce production as continuous heavy rains and flash floods brought by southwest monsoon increased sediment, debris, and turbidity in the raw water sources. The said dam is the main raw water source of MPIW, the primary water distributor in Iloilo City. MDRRMO MAASIN/FACEBOOK PHOTO
