Bacolod CHO holds forum as dengue cases surge

BACOLOD City – The City Health Office (CHO) conducted a forum in cooperation with the Philippine Pediatric Society in order to prevent the increase of dengue cases here.

Data from CHO showed that from January to October 26 this year, there were a total of 2,077 dengue cases with five casualties – 321.3 percent higher than last year’s data in the same period with only 493 cases and three deaths.

Of the 2,077 cases, almost 1,093 were pediatric cases aged below one year old to 19 years old.

Barangay Taculing remained topped with the highest number of cases at 243.

Other barangays with high cases are Bata (168), Mansilingan (165), Estefania (160), Villamonte (134), Mandalagan (109), Tangub (106), Alijis (100), Sum-ag (90), Singcang-Airport (85), Cabug (82), Banago (81), and Granada (76).

Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella, chairperson of the City Council committee on health, the forum which was also attended by barangay health workers (BHWs) from 61 city barangays focused on the intensified campaign against dengue.

The city government, he said, had been stepping up its efforts to control the spike in dengue cases for several months but the cases continue to increase particularly during the onset of the rainy season.

The CHO keeps on reminding the barangays and encouraging the public to always maintain the cleanliness not only of their households but also of their surroundings.

Moreover, it continuously conducts fogging operations as well as advises residents to practice the 3 o’clock habit./PN
