BACOLOD City – Fulfilling his promise of swift and responsive governance, newly assumed Mayor Greg Gasataya wasted no time in tackling the city’s persistent traffic problems by reactivating long-defunct traffic lights on his first full day in office.
In his speech during the inaugural session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod on July 2, Mayor Gasataya announced the reactivation of the traffic lights at the congested Lopue’s East intersection, which had remained non-operational for some time and caused daily bottlenecks in the area.
Just a day later, traffic lights at Bangga La Salle were also restored, bringing much-needed order and safety for both motorists and pedestrians at one of the city’s busiest junctions.
The mayor emphasized that repair work is ongoing for other traffic lights throughout Bacolod and committed to making all signal systems fully operational within his first 100 days in office. This forms part of his administration’s priority to deliver immediate and visible improvements in the daily lives of Bacolodnons.
“Ang disiplina sa dalanon begins with systems that work. This is just the start of ensuring smoother traffic flow and safer roads for everyone in Bacolod,” Gasataya stated.
The city government is urging the public, especially motorists and pedestrians, to remain patient as repair and maintenance work continues at various intersections. Officials assure the public that a more efficient traffic management system is in the works under Mayor Gasataya’s leadership.
It was also learned that Atty. Reuben Sabig, a regular employee of the City Legal Office, has been designated by the mayor as officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Bacolod Traffic and Transport Management Department, signaling further administrative reforms in traffic governance./PN
