BACOLOD City – “Immoral” and “scandalous” acts do not have a place in the city, more so under his administration, said Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia.
Leonardia was commenting on a video that went viral online showing women “twerking” on a man’s lap at a restobar in Barangay 5.
The video sparked issues on morality, catching the attention of the city government and other government agencies like the Department of Social Development and Services.
“We feel that it is immoral and scandalous because it was done publicly, and more so some minors were involved,” Leonardia said yesterday.
The mayor added that he will strictly enforce City Ordinance No. 450, which “prohibits the sale of liquor, beer and other intoxicants to persons below 18 years old.”
Leonardia also said he and Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran will intensify their campaign against indecent acts.
He encouraged the public to report establishments where “immoral” activities are happening.
The city government will also reach out to barangay officials, Leonardia said.
Meanwhile, Executive Assistant Sammy Montoyo said the establishment – identified as Peats and Beans – operates as a restobar but its business permit says it is a coffee shop.
The Peats and Beans management has already applied for a new business permit.
According to Leonardia, the Licensing and Permits Division must next time be careful in issuing business permits./PN
