BACOLOD City – The City Veterinary Office (CVO) is urging residents to adopt dogs from the city dog pound as part of its campaign to manage the growing stray dog population.
“These dogs may have come from the streets, but they’re ready to become part of your home,” said Dr. John Michael Cabuguason, assistant city veterinarian.
The CVO’s “Adopt-a-Dog” program offers a humane and practical solution to the overcrowding of the city dog pound caused by the increasing number of stray dogs in the city.
Each adopted dog will receive free spaying or neutering, rabies and 5-in-1 vaccines, deworming, and pet registration.
“If you’ve been thinking of adopting, now’s the perfect time,” said Cabuguason. “Give them the second chance they deserve, and gain a loyal friend for life.”
Interested residents may visit the CVO at the BAYS Center along San Juan Street for more information.
Meanwhile, the CVO is also continuing the Libre Kapon program, which offers free castration and spaying services for both dogs and cats. Pet owners may inquire at the CVO to avail of the program.
In a related development, the CVO recently conducted an orientation with barangay officials in line with the implementation of the Animal Welfare Desk Ordinance.
Barangays Villamonte and 8 have been identified as pilot areas for the rollout of the ordinance, according to Cabuguason.
The Animal Welfare Desk will serve as a mechanism to handle reports and cases of animal abuse by coordinating with proper authorities such as the police for appropriate action.
Barangays are required to respond to and document reports of animal abuse, whether received in person or via phone calls, and provide regular updates on the progress of each case.
The ordinance aims to protect and promote the welfare of all animals — wild or domesticated — within the city, whether kept as pets, bred, traded, or trained for any purpose./PN
