Bacolod establishments urged to boost sanitation vs COVID-19

BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has urged commercial establishments to implement preventive measures against the possible spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairperson of the SP’s Committee on Health, passed a resolution enjoining shopping malls, restaurants and other commercial establishments to promote proper hygiene by making available to their clients hand sanitizers, 70 percent isopropyl alcohol and hand soap in their respective premises.

“It is very important for Bacolodnons to take an active role in combating the COVID-19 threat by staying vigilant through proper hygiene and sanitation,” said Rojas.

According to Rojas, establishments should also frequently disinfect surfaces such as escalators and handrails, trollies, doorknobs, and elevator buttons.

Front liners like guards and janitorial personnel were also directed to wear masks while tenants, as well as mall employees, must undergo awareness seminars on the nature, prevention, and symptoms of the COVID-19.

Recently, eight persons were quarantined in several hospitals here; they were considered persons under investigation (PUIs) for having flu symptoms following their travel abroad.

All PUIs were later discharged from the hospital after the results of their tests at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine turned negative COVID-19./PN
