Bacolod has new acting poll officer

BACOLOD City – This city has a new acting poll officer.

Adrian Arellano, Commission on Elections (Comelec) officer of Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, took over the post of Negros Occidental Comelec supervisor, Ma. Fatima Aspan, effective Sept. 21.

On Sept. 14, Comelec-6 director Wilfred Jay Balisado appointed Aspan as acting election officer in this city, concurrent to her position in the province. This, after a staff of the Comelec office here contracted coronavirus disease.

This will be until all Comelec personnel have finished their mandatory quarantine period, Balisado said.

Aspan temporarily assumed the position of city poll officer Kathrina Caña who was quarantined since Sept. 13.

Balisado said Arellano’s assumption would be until Sept. 25.

According to Balisado, he relieved Aspan to “prevent any controversies”.

Earlier, Mayor Evelio Leonardia called on Aspan to “inhibit” herself from assuming as city poll officer.

The mayor cited the “sudden and extremely unusual” influx of transferee-registrants from out-of-town areas at the Comelec office early this week.

However, Balisado clarified that the relief of Aspan was “not related” to the call of Leonardia./PN
