BACOLOD City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has reported several grass fire incidents in this city, some of which were in privately owned areas.
As information reached Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, the local chief executive appealed to the public to maintain their backyards so as not to cause grass fires.
“I ask everybody to do their part in this phenomenon that we are experiencing, kon pwedi utdon na lang gid nila ang mga grass dira to prevent grass fire,” the mayor said.
He reminded homeowners as well of the importance of properly disposing of grass cuttings. If left unattended, it can still be a fire hazard, he said.
The city mayor emphasized that grass fires due to neglect or irresponsibility take up the precious resources of the city as well as the BFP amid the water scarcity being experienced.
The BFP is currently implementing water rationing as the city takes the toll of the dry spell.
More importantly, he said, a grassfire in this city poses a significant threat to both public safety and property.
Given the city’s urban landscape and dense population, a grassfire can spread rapidly, endangering homes, businesses, and lives./PN
