BACOLOD City – The city government here has temporarily suspended the payout of financial assistance under its Bayad Agad program pending the release of the certificate of exemption from the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
The said program provides quick cash assistance to individuals in crisis. It covers qualified residents in need of medical, burial, education, and calamity assistance, among others.
Atty. Marty Go, secretary-to-the-mayor, said while the city awaits the certificate of exemption, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has ordered to hold momentarily the releasing of the cash aid.
Go, however, clarified that the city government continues to accept and process the applications for Bayad Agad.
Earlier last month, the city government submitted to Comelec its application for exemption of its 32 social services, eight housing-related projects, and 243 infrastructure projects from election ban in connection with the upcoming May 12 midterm elections.
The poll body has so far exempted 64 infrastructure projects from the election ban.
Go said the remaining infrastructure projects can resubmit application for exemption after complying the lacking documentary requirements such as the notice to proceed./PN
