MANILA – Bacolod Tubo Slashers suffered a 20-0 forfeiture defeat to Pangasinan Heatwave in the 2025 MPBL Season on Saturday evening at the Pola Gymnasium located in Oriental Mindoro.
The Heatwaves were on top at 50-30 after two quarters when the Tubo Slashers decide not to come out from the dugout for the second half, forcing MPBL Technical Head George Magsino to award the win to Pangasinan.
According to Panay News sources, the Tubo Slashers’ act was in protest for the league not allowing their new recruits Tzaddy Rangel and Kenneth Malazarte to suit up against the Heatwaves.
Rangel, a former Gilas Pilipinas standout, along with homegrown player Malazarte were announced as the Tubo Slashers’ new recruits on Thursday but their papers were not processed.
The MPBL has not yet released a statement concerning the incident and the potential penalties that may be imposed on the Tubo Slashers.
With the development, the Heatwaves improved their record to 10-5, while the Tubo Slashers dropped to a 2-13 win-loss slate.
Meanwhile, Rizal XentroMall Golden Coolers (10-6) routed Imus Braderhood (7-10), 114-77.
Michael Cañete led Rizal with 16 points and six rebounds, Eric James Camson chipped in 15 markers, while Neil Tolentino added 14 points and three rebounds to be named Player of the Game./PN
