ILOILO City – Farmers in Iloilo’s Balasan town received 500 heads of native chicken as livelihood intervention under the Typhoon Ursula Rehabilitation Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Western Visayas.

This is part of the 2,695 heads of native chicken intervention for the municipality of Balasan as replacement of the reported poultry damaged.

Each beneficiary received a packet of four pullets and one cockerel which is intended for breeding.

A roll-over scheme will be adopted to expand the project to the next-in-line beneficiaries in the affected communities.

Regional Executive Director Remelyn Recoter said the distribution of animals procured under the DA Quick Response Fund (QRF) for Typhoon Ursula will be completed before the end of the year.

“Aside from the native chicken, 159 heads of swine and 905 ducks were already distributed to your municipality last October. And our agency is yet to deliver 204 goats, 27 caracows and 37 cattles to Balasan farmers who were affected by Typhoon Ursula last year,” Recoter told.

LGUs of Batad, Concepcion, Lemery, and Estancia are also recipients of the P3.16 million (4,515 heads) native chicken project under the DA-QRF.(DA-RAFIS 6/PN)
