BARBIE Forteza’s upcoming horror film “P77” shifts the spotlight from the usual jump scares to the psychological scars left by
traumas, as it explores the realities of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
“Our story is grounded in family, but what sets it apart is how it touches on PTSD. Beyond the scares, it aims to create awareness and compassion for those struggling with this condition,” said Forteza during the film’s recent media conference.
When asked if it’s easy or difficult to work with a child in a horror movie, Forteza spoke highly of Mikaell, who was named Best Child Performer at the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival for his role as Tonton in “Firefly.” He was also the Best Child Actor at the 72nd FAMAS Awards.
“The camera loves him; he has a good register on camera. He captures the heart of the audience. His mindset as a child helps him portray his character Jonas, making him relatable and deep. I really felt he was comfortable with us on set,” said the actress.
“P77” also stars Jackielou Blanco, Carlos Siguion Reyna, Gina Pareño, Rosanna Roces, Chrome Cosio and JC Alcantara. It is created by “Green Bones” creators Anj Atienza and Kristian Julao with a screenplay by Enrico Santos. It is directed by horror filmmaker Derick Cabrido, known for his work on “Mallari.”
When asked what unique experience the film can offer to the audience, Cabrido said that its “sound design” is one of the aspects they can look forward to.
“This is the kind of film where processing the sound design is challenging because it has so many elements. While we were watching it as we
edited, it was not boring. I know the audience will enjoy it because it’s a different kind of horror,” he said.
