MANILA – Malacañang has advised Filipinos to be critical and watchful when they select the candidates they will vote for today’s midterm elections.

According to Presidential Communications Office’s Undersecretary Claire Castro, voters should not solely rely on the content of individuals online, which could be “fake news”.

“Unang-una po na maipapayo ng administrasyon, maging mapanuri, maging mapagmatyag; at huwag ninyo pong ibenta ang inyong dignidad,” Castro said in a media briefing at Malacañang Palace.

Castro also urged the public to refrain from watching online content that is critical of the government without basis as it could swayed them into electing undeserving candidates.

“Huwag ibenta ang bansa sa ibang mga bansa na maaaring may interes dito sa ating teritoryo, sa ating soberenya,” Castro said.

She added: “Ang pintuan po ng pamahalaan ay hindi naman po hahadlangan ang anumang mga kritisismo hangga’t meron pong basehan.”

Today, millions of Filipinos are expected to vote for new members of the Senate and House of Representatives, and local government officials.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. earlier declared May 12, 2025, Election Day, as a holiday to allow Filipinos to cast their votes./PN
