Bertolano carries Baguio past Chery Tiggo in Volleyprep

MANILA – Alyssa Bertolano proved to be a thorn on the side of her former teammates. She led ABCamp Baguio to a semis stint in the VolleyPrep Volleyball Club Championship 2021 on Monday at the Naga College Foundation Volleyball Center in Naga City.

The Talisay City, Negros Occidental native carried the cudgels on offense as the ABCamp Baguio scored a 25-22, 27-25 win over Bacolod City’s Chery Tiggo Thunderbolts in the quarterfinals.

Bertolano, Joan Maddatu and Zen Basilio took turns in the crucial stretch. Baguio to finished off the Bacolod Tay Tung High School-led Thunderbolts in 47 minutes.

The 19-year-old Bertolano was a former standout of the Bacolod Tay Tung. She was recruited to play for University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons for college.

The ABCamp Baguio will face the winner of Naga’s Monolith Tigers-Parañaque City Green Berets in the one-game semifinals match on late Monday evening.

On the part of the Thunderbolts, they will try to salvage a fifth place finish against the loser of Tigers-Green Berets in the classification round of the competition on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, Ilongga Keiara Almirante and Kings Montessori School Lady Vikings also made it to the Final Four following a 25-15, 25-19 beating of Tacloban City in the other quarterfinals match.

It was the second consecutive win of the Lady Vikings in the week-long competition after losing their first two matches in Pool B last Saturday.

The Lady Vikings hopes to continue their winning ways when they battle California Precision-Sports, which reached the semifinals via a 25-6, 25-17 domination over Nueva Ecija.

“Medyo nanibago kami last Saturday since it was our first game in a long time. But we were able to adjust in our last two matches. Hopefully magtuloy tuloy na,” Almirante said./PN
