ILOILO City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in this city is expected to perform well primarily because of the city government’s support.
The bureau itself acknowledged the help to attain its goal of “state-of-the-art service.” During its 43rd Fire Service Recognition Day at UP Diliman, Quezon City on Dec. 14, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog received a token of recognition from the BFP national headquarters.
Mabilog was cited “for his unwavering support to the goals and aspirations of BFP which has contributed to the attainment of the mission and objectives of the organization in providing indispensable fire protection services to the general public.”
The city government was also cited “in grateful and sincere appreciation for the effort extended in donating a 1,325-square meter intended for the construction of Iloilo City Fire Station (ICFS),” by BFP regional office during a ceremony in Jaro district on Dec. 19.
“Such act manifested a great concern for the welfare of constituents and made into realization the agency’s vision of a modern fire service fully capable of ensuring a fire-safe nation by 2034,” BFP-6 stated.
The city government allocated P20 million for the construction ICFS in Molo district, from its 400-square meter building beside Freedom Grandstand in City Proper, next year.
It also donated three fire trucks to ICFS Dec. 12 to boost its firefighting capabilities. The P7.8 million budget was taken from local disaster fund.
The equipment will be stationed in substations in populated locations including one along Villa Beach area for coastal barangays Boulevard to Sto. Niño Sur in Arevalo district and the other one in coastal area from Ingore to Bitoon in Jaro where there are many warehouses.
The city government already donated five fire trucks. BFP-Iloilo City has a total 16 fire trucks.
City Fire Marshal Jerry Candido said they need five more fire trucks to attain the ideal ratio as to population served. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
