ILOILO City – Coastal clean-up, community pantry and mangrove planting. It was a jam-packed day of community service for around 60 personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Region 6 yesterday. They served their penalty for holding a mass gathering last month.
The metro is under the modified enhanced community quarantine; mass gatherings are strictly prohibited.
BFP-6 director Jerry Candido said they had two groups around 5:30 a.m. yesterday: one conducted coastal cleanup in Barangay Santo Niño Sur, Arevalo district and the other set up a community pantry at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand. Around 200 indigent families of Barangay Muelle Loney here received food packs.
Around 5 p.m., the BFP personnel planted mangroves along the coastline of Barangay Hinactacan, La Paz district. At least 560 mangrove seedlings were planted.
“Amon na nga ginserbahan sang tampad ang penalidad sa paglapas sang health protocol sa mass gathering,” said Candido.
“Kabay pa nga magserbe ini nga leksyon sa tanan, nga aton sundon ang mga health protocols sa padayon naton nga pakig–away sa coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) sa syudad sang Iloilo,”
he added.
Candido and his men together with Cong. Julienne Baronda were ordered by Mayor Jerry Treñas to do community service as recommended by the City Legal Office.
They attended the blessing and inauguration of the BFP substation in Alta Tierra Village, Jaro district on June 10.
Although only 24 personnel were present during the inauguration, the BFP decided to render the community service full force.
Baronda, meanwhile, started rendering community service as early as June 30 through a community kitchen and distributed food packs to various vaccination sites in this city./PN
