MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec), sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), has officially proclaimed Bagong Henerasyon (BH) party-list as among the winners in the 2025 midterm polls.
The proclamation was made after the Comelec en banc issued a certificate of finality and entry of judgment junking the disqualification complaint filed against the party-list and its nominees.
Roberto Gerard Nazal Jr. will take the seat as the first nominee of BH party-list. He will be part of the House of Representatives’ 20th Congress until June 30, 2028.
Last week, the Comelec en banc rejected a motion for reconsideration filed by petitioner Russel Stanley Geronimo and affirmed a May 22 decision of the Comelec First Division that rejected the disqualification case due to procedural defect.
According to Comelec Resolution No. 9523 in relation to Section 13(b), Rule 18 and Section 3, Rule 37 of the 1993 Comelec Rules of Procedures, a decision or a resolution of the Comelec en Banc on special actions will be final and executory after five days upon the receipt of the said decision and resolution except if the Supreme Court (SC) issues a temporary restraining order or preliminary injunction.
Meanwhile, poll body is set to issue a show cause order (SCO) against incumbent Duterte Youth party-list’s Cong. Drixie Mae Cardema over the allegation that “Cardema” is not her real surname.
Comelec chairperson George Garcia stated that the poll body will ask Drixie Mae, the party-list group’s first nominee, to explain the allegation circulating on social media.
“On social media, she is being accused of using a different family name, not her real family name. We just want to know the truth,” Garcia said in an interview regarding allegations that Drixie’s surname is Suarez.
It can be recalled that the Comelec, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, earlier postponed the proclamation of BH party-list and Duterte Youth due to pending petitions filed against them.
“We want to give her a proper venue to answer the allegations officially and formally,” Garcia said. “If found lying, that can be a perjury case and an election offense. That is what we want to determine.”
Drixie Mae is the sister of Ducielle Cardema, wife of Duterte Youth leader Ronald Cardema./PN
