ILOILO City — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested an Italian national in this city for overstaying and failing to maintain valid immigration documents.
Agents from the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU), in coordination with the Naval Forces Central of the Philippine Navy, apprehended 40-year-old Antonino Consoli on September 30 at a restaurant he manages in Mandurriao district.
The operation stemmed from intelligence reports alleging Consoli’s involvement in the physical abuse of a Filipina and the operation of a business without the necessary permits.
According to the BI, Consoli last entered the Philippines in January 2023 as a temporary visitor and was later granted a probationary immigrant visa under Section 13(a) of the Philippine Immigration Act. However, the visa expired in August 2024 and was never renewed. His passport also lapsed on September 21, 2025, rendering him both an overstaying and undocumented foreign national.
“The Bureau takes complaints seriously and will act against foreign nationals who violate our laws,” said FSU chief Rendel Ryan Sy.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado commended the operation, lauding the FSU’s vigilance in monitoring and apprehending overstaying foreigners, which he said helps safeguard national security.
Consoli is set to be transferred to Manila for booking and documentation before being turned over to the BI Warden Facility pending deportation proceedings./PN
