BIR extends filing, payment of some taxes

ROXAS, Capiz – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) extends the filing and payment of certain taxes thru the issuance of Revenue Memorandum Circular (RMC) 30-2020 in compliance with declaration of enhanced community quarantine and reinforcement of Republic Act No. 11469 also known as “Bayanihan To Heal As One Act.”

Taxpayers should disregard the penalties computed by the Electronic Filing and Payment System (EFPS) and pay only the basic tax due, advised Eralen De Aro, head of BIR Revenue District Office No. 72, in a press release.

“Penalties will not be charged as long as the filing and payment is within the deadline provided by the circular. If the taxpayers file and pay beyond the stated deadline, appropriate penalties shall be imposed or computed,” she said.

The EFPS facility is a BIR online system that automatically computes penalties for late filing and payment, De Aro noted.

RMC 30 – 2020 may be accessed at the bureau’s online portal, www.bir.gov.ph, for certain tax forms/returns as well as the corresponding due dates and extensions.

She said that the circular was issued to address confusions arising from inadvertent on the due dates in the filing of certain tax returns and payment of the corresponding taxes.

De Aro advised the public to contact the office at (036) 6216564 for clarifications or inquiries. (with a report from PIA Capiz/PN)
