ILOILO City – To ease the burden on taxpayers reeling from the impact of recent tropical cyclones and monsoon rains, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has extended until July 31 the deadlines for filing tax returns, paying taxes, and submitting related documents in heavily affected areas.

The extension, announced on July 25, applies to individuals and businesses in provinces hit by Tropical Cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong, as well as those affected by the intensified southwest monsoon or habagat. Among the covered areas are Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental in Western Visayas.

“We understand the challenges that come with severe weather conditions. Part of our drive for Excellent Taxpayer Service is listening and adjusting to the realities faced by taxpayers. Stay safe, prioritize your families and loved ones. The BIR will be moving the deadline to July 31,” BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. said.

The tax relief also covers other storm-affected areas in Luzon, including Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, and Mountain Province. Central Luzon provinces such as Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales are also included, as well as Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and the Bicol Region.

The BIR clarified that all taxpayers and agency personnel under affected Revenue District Offices and Authorized Agent Banks are granted the extension. If the new deadline of July 31 falls on a holiday or a non-working day, the next working day shall serve as the new due date.

The measure is part of the BIR’s response to widespread disruptions brought by flooding, displacement, and transportation delays due to extreme weather events./PN
