BJMP guard faces admin raps for construction workers’ death

ILOILO – A jail officer of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region 6 was slapped with two administrative complaints over the death of a construction worker in Barangay Poblacion, Barotac Viejo.

The complaints against Jail Officer Ryan Tupas of Barangay San Juan, Barotac Viejo were conduct unbecoming of a jail officer and conduct grossly prejudicial to the service.

“These are serious charges. He could be dismissed from the service if proven guilty,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Gilbert Peremne, BJMP-6 deputy director for administration.

Tupas, 35, was assigned at the Barotac Viejo District Jail. He was the suspect in the shooting of Ernesto Pescado, 49, of Barangay Vista Alegre, Barotac Viejo on Aug. 15.

The shooting happened at around 12:30 a.m. Pescado was about to board his motorcycle when attacked.

Tupas was reportedly drunk.

Pescado sustained a gunshot wound on the chest.

Responding policemen recovered from Tupas his service firearm, a .45 pistol.

Tupas is currently under the custody of his jail warden in Barotac Viejo. He will be transferred to the BJMP regional office for a summary hearing./PN
