Bong Go officially on top as Comelec ends canvassing

MANILA – Reelectionist Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go was officially the leading vote recipient in the 2025 senatorial election, as the Commission on Elections (Comelec), acting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), completed its canvassing process. 

According to the national certificate of canvass released on Thursday night, the former Special Assistant to ex-President Rodrigo Duterte garnered 27,121,073 votes, surpassing 65 other senatorial candidates.

Finishing behind Go is former senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV with 20,971,899, followed by reelectionist Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa with 20,773,946 votes.

Erwin Tulfo is at fourth place with 17,118,881, followed by ex-senator Kiko Pangilinan with 15,343,229 votes, and Sagip party-list’s Cong. Rodante Marcoleta is at sixth spot with 15,250,723.

Completing the “Magic 12” are Panfilo Lacson (15,106,111), Vicente “Tito” Sotto III (14,832,996), Pia Cayetano (14,573,430), Camille Villar (13,651,274), Manuel “Lito” Lapid (13,394,102), and Imee Marcos (13,339,227).

The NBOC stated that, despite releasing the votes and rankings, the number of votes is not yet final and still subject to auditing.

The NBOC completed the tallying of 175 certificates of canvass (COCs) in three days, the fastest in election history, after the board of canvassers convened on Tuesday, May 13.

Of the 175 COCs, one was from the local absentee voting, two from overseas board of canvassers, 82 were from provinces, 26 were from highly urbanized cities (HUCs), and 64 were from overseas voting.

The NBOC canvassed a total 58 COCs of Tuesday, they completed the canvassing of 101 more COCs on Wednesday, and the remaining 16 COCs on Thursday night./PN
