AKLAN – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has deployed a specialized Boracay Anti-Vice Unit (BAVU) to bolster security and crack down on illegal activities on the island.

A sendoff ceremony was held on Monday, March 31, at Camp Pastor Martelino, Barangay New Buswang, Kalibo, Aklan, where PRO-6 director Brigadier General Jack L. Wanky led the deployment of the unit.

Also present were other officials from PRO-6, Aklan Police Provincial Office, and Malay Municipal Police Station (MPS).

The 22-member intelligence and anti-criminality team will work alongside the Malay MPS.

“Its primary objective is to actively identify and neutralize criminal threats, particularly drug-related offenses. It will also strategically augment the Malay Municipal Police Station’s existing forces and will focus on proactive intelligence gathering and targeted operations,” Wanky said.

The Western Visayas’ top cop said the initiative is a strategic move to safeguard Boracay during its busiest months, when thousands of tourists flock to the island for Holy Week and summer vacations.

“The deployment of this specialized unit ensures that Boracay remains a safe and secure destination, reinforcing our commitment to protecting both residents and visitors,” he said.

Wanky added: “This reinforcement signifies the commitment of PRO-6 to safeguarding Boracay Island status as a premier tourist destination, ensuring the safety of both locals and tourists to drive local tourism growth.”/PN
